Hartford, CT. - In a game moved played on the campus of Trinity College in Hartford, CT, the Williams men’s lacrosse team (3-0, 2-0 NESCAC) scored the final four goals to rally past Conn College 7-4 and claim their third win of the year against no defeats. With the loss Conn College falls to 0-4 on the year and the Camels are 0-3 in NESCAC play. “It was an exciting back and forth game against a well-coached team,” noted Eph head coach George McCormack. “Conn is vastly improved from last year and in their last game they lost 10-9 at Middlebury so we knew it would be a battle. They played conservatively on defense for most of the game and then exerted pressure and it took us a while to adjust.” Due to the nature of a spring break contest at a neutral site complete details are not known at this time. “They had us 4-3 in the third after it was tied at three all at the half and we managed to tie it before the quarter ended, but I’m not sure who scored,” said McCormack. “I do know that Brian Morrissey made a great run and scored the go-ahead goal and that gave us a lot of energy and then we capitalized in transition twice to make the final 7-4. The Conn goalie [Mark Moran] was on fire today and played and outstanding game and we got a great game from Michael Gerbush in goal. Goals were hard to come by.” “I thought our defense really rose to the occasion when Conn scored their fourth goal and our transition offense took us the rest of the way,” said McCormack. “Michael Vrla and Kevin Connolly really worked with their legs today – it seemed like we won every face-off. This was a great road win for us.” Next up for the Ephs is a home game on Wednesday at 4:30 pm vs. Keene State on Lamb Field.

Former Harry's Supermarket Under Construction for Restaurant

By Brittany PolitoiBerkshires Staff

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Construction is underway to transform the former Harry's Supermarket into a restaurant

Late last month, the Conservation Commission greenlit some tree pruning on the property. New windows and a new door can be seen in the front of the building.

"It's a substantial renovation that's currently underway here," Brent White of White Engineering said, speaking on behalf of the applicant and owner, Huajie Zhu.

A fire gutted the longtime Wahconah Street supermarket in 2023, and the following year, Zhu purchased the property for $460,000 two years ago to build a restaurant with hibachi in the existing footprint of the more than 100-year-old building.

White explained that the project has been ongoing for over a year, and the Community Development Board granted the property a waiver to reduce the minimum required number of parking spaces so that additional spaces aren't needed.

He noted that, looking at the site plan, there is very little room to do so. A mirror will be installed near the sharp turn on Bel Air Avenue to alleviate traffic concerns.

Pruning will be done on trees in the southeast corner of the existing paved parking lot, as a number of branches are hanging over. The new owners also intend to patch, sealcoat, and re-stripe the parking lot.

A fire tore through the building less than an hour after the supermarket closed for the day three years ago. An automatic sprinkler system is required for the new use.
