NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — North Adams Regional Hospital's Medical Imaging Department will hold an open house on Wednesday, Oct. 21, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the hospital’s new digital mammography suite.

The hospital recently installed two Lorad digital mammography units and a digital bone densitometer to complete the department's transition to all-digital imaging systems.

"We're very excited to invite the community to see our newest advances in imaging technology," said Lisa Harrison, director of medical imaging. “We have invested significant resources in our department to provide state-of-the-art technology in medical imaging, from ultrasound and mammography to CT scans and MRI."

The hospital's medical imaging department has been accredited by the American College of Radiology and designated a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence by its Commissions on Quality and Safety and on Breast Imaging.

The Center of Excellence designation is awarded only when a breast-imaging center has achieved accreditation in stereotactic breast biopsy, breast ultrasound, and ultrasound-guided breast biopsy, and by the ACR or other accrediting body in mammography.

NARH's medical imaging department performed nearly 6,500 mammograms and breast ultrasounds last year.

The ACR awards accreditation to facilities that achieve high practice standards after a peer-review evaluation of the practice. Evaluations are conducted by board-certified physicians and medical physicists who are experts in the field.
