STOCKBRIDGE, Mass. — Norman Rockwell Museum will present a series of live music performances during the months of July and August. All events are free with museum admission.

Pneuma Brass Quintet
Thursday, July 1, 5:30 p.m.
Kick off the 4th of July weekend with a special Independence Day-inspired by this Massachusetts-based brass quintet.

Berkshire Choral Festival
Wednesdays, July 14, 21, 28, and August 4, 2:30 p.m.
Spirited performances of American music by Berkshire-based singers.

Music and the Movies: An A Cappella Evening with Quintessential
Thursday, July 22, 5:30 p.m.
An evening of songs from the silver screen with Quintessential, a Berkshire-based ensemble of a cappella singers. The event is part of the museum's ongoing "American Storytellers" lecture and performance series, and is sponsored by "The Albany Times Union."


Classic Folk: An Evening with The Berkshire Ramblers
Thursday, July 29, 5:30 p.m.
Join Roselle and Alan Chartock, Joe Brady and friends, for a evening of classic folk music. These regional musicians have been sharing their love for American folk music for more than 40 years. The event is part of the Museum's ongoing "American Storytellers" lecture and performance series, and is sponsored by "The Albany Times Union."

The Stockbridge Sinfonia
Saturday, August 21, 2 p.m.
An afternoon of music with this long-running community orchestra, which celebrates the talents of developing musicians and seasoned performers. Free. Museum admission is additional.

Norman Rockwell Museum, located at 9 Route 183, is open year-round. From May through October, hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily; from November through April, hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekends and holidays.

Museum admission is $15 for adults, $10 for students, and $13.50 for seniors. Children and teens 18 and under are admitted free year-round through Kids Free Every Day, a gift to families from Country Curtains, Blantyre, and The Red Lion Inn. For more information, visit www.nrm.org.

Former Harry's Supermarket Under Construction for Restaurant

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Construction is underway to transform the former Harry's Supermarket into a restaurant

Late last month, the Conservation Commission greenlit some tree pruning on the property. New windows and a new door can be seen in the front of the building. 

"It's a substantial renovation that's currently underway here," Brent White of White Engineering said, speaking on behalf of the applicant and owner, Huajie Zhu. 

A fire gutted the longtime Wahconah Street supermarket in 2023, and the following year, Zhu purchased the property for $460,000 two years ago to build a restaurant with hibachi in the existing footprint of the more than 100-year-old building. 

White explained that the project has been ongoing for over a year, and the Community Development Board granted the property a waiver to reduce the minimum required number of parking spaces so that additional spaces aren't needed.  

He noted that, looking at the site plan, there is very little room to do so. A mirror will be installed near the sharp turn on Bel Air Avenue to alleviate traffic concerns. 

Pruning will be done on trees in the southeast corner of the existing paved parking lot, as a number of branches are hanging over. The new owners also intend to patch, sealcoat, and re-stripe the parking lot. 

A fire tore through the building less than an hour after the supermarket closed for the day three years ago. An automatic sprinkler system is required for the new use.
