WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — Williamstown Theatre Festival is planning a special one-night only Main Stage benefit cabaret featuring James and Greg Naughton.

The father-son duo are Williamstown Theatre Festival family members and have graced the WTF stage for years. Their benefit cabaret performance will be held on Monday, Aug. 2 at 7 p.m.

James and Greg Naughton started singing together at the 1896 House in the 1980s; they sang together at the White House in the 1990s.

James Naughton is a two-time Tony Award winner for Best Actor in a Musical for his performances in the revival of "Chicago" and "City of Angels." 2010 marks his 15th season at Williamstown Theatre Festival. His acting credits on the WTF stage include "The Chekhov Cycle," "The Skin of Our Teeth," "The Show-Off," and "The Night of the Iguana." He has also directed "Filumena," "Johnny on a Spot," and "The Price," which later transferred to Broadway. He has been seen in many films such as "The Devil Wears Prada," "First Wives Club," "The Good Mother," "The Glass Menagerie" and "The Paper Chase," as well as on TV in "Gossip Girl," "Ally McBeal" and "Planet of the Apes." No stranger to the cabaret setting, he  has performed in his own one-man cabaret show "James Naughton: Street of Dreams" as well as WTF’s "Cabaret and Main."

Sharing the stage is James’ son, Greg, also a Festival veteran. Greg has performed in "Misha’s Party," "Filumena" and "A Midsummer Night’s Dream," among others. He is the founder of the OBIE Award winning Blue Light Theater in New York City, where he has served as artistic director. Currently, Greg works primarily as a singer-songwriter, performing solo and with his two bands The Stark Naked Sole and The Sweet Remains.

The Main Stage is located at the ’62 Center for Theatre and Dance on the Williams College campus. Tickets are $50 for orchestra seats, $40 for first balcony and $25 for second balcony. For more information, visit wtfestival.org.

Williamstown Board Opts to Negotiate with College on Water St. Lot

By Stephen DravisiBerkshires Staff

Newly elected board member Nate Budington, far left, participates in his first in-person meeting along with, from left, Matt Neely, Stephanie Boyd, Peter Beck, Shana Dixon and Town Manager Robert Menicocci.
WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — The Select Board on Monday decided to enter into negotiations with Williams College on the sale of the vacant town-owned lot at 59 Water St.

But the board members made it clear that the college's proposal to acquire the lot is a starting point, not a final deal that the elected officials would accept.

"For the sake of continued conversation, I'm in favor of [awarding Williams the site], but if this process wasn't continued with the opportunity for further negotiation, I wouldn't vote to continue this," Peter Beck said. "I think that next step is necessary for us to get to a yes on this."

"I think there's wide agreement on that," Matthew Neely said just before the 5-0 vote to enter talks with the college.

Williams was the sole respondent to a town-issued request for proposals to develop the former town garage site, currently a dirt lot.

The college's stated intent is to build a new Facilities office and create up to 170 parking spaces at 59 Water Street. That use will allow the college to redevelop the current Facilities building site and parking lot as part of a reconception of the school's indoor athletic and recreation facilities.

Under the terms of the RFP, the college's proposal was subjected to review by an ad hoc advisory committee to the town manager, who brought the question to the Select Board. That board will have the final say on any purchase and sales agreement.
