ADAMS, Mass. — The Adams Free Library has a new trustee and will add a part-time position as it begins the search for a new director.

The trustees last Thursday appointed Anita Jamros to the board to fill a vacant seat after retired Library Director Deborah Bruneau said she would be a good fit.

"She is very interested and is an active user in the library and we know that she is in here weekly," Bruneau said. "She has been here in Adams for a long time."

She said Jamros was the only person to submit an application.

With Children's Librarian Holli Jayko filling in as interim library director, the library will hire part-time temporary help. Jayko said the position was posted internally first and has gone public. Interviews will be held this week with the position to be filled by December.

Chairman of the Trustees James Loughman asked Jayko if she is made the library director permanently, and the town does not hire a new children's librarian, would she be able to handle both jobs?

Jayko said she will know more when the temporary help is hired.

"I am hopeful, but I am just getting my feet wet," Jayko said. "I would rather not have to do both jobs, but I think having been the children's library director for 13 years here, I have kind of streamlined what I do and it has helped me take on extra tasks."

In other business, Jayko said a local woman has offered to donate her handcrafted birdhouses to the library. They will be displayed in the children's  section.

"I do have places to display them, and  they are adorable," she said. "I think the children would like to see them ... we might put some fake snow down and put them out there and it will be our holiday display."

Jayko added that she is concerned about the new library bathroom that has no heat. She said it gets very cold in that part of the building and she does not want the pipes to freeze. The bathroom door will be kept open when not in use and it will be monitored.
