Monday Night Taste Test: Moulton's Pizzeria

By Susan Bush - December 04, 2006

Spinach Pie/Greek Salad Combo with stuffed grape leaves
North Adams - New management is at the helm of Moulton's Pizzeria, and a new expanded menu debuted today. Moulton's is located at the corner of Eagle and Main streets and is designed to be family-friendly, with booth and table seating and a casual, come-as-you-are atmosphere.

The eatery serves beer and wine as well as soft drinks.

A Selection Of 26 Appetizers

Ziti with meatballs
The new menu is extensive; the appetizer menu alone lists 26 items including grape leaves, calamari rings, garlic bread and three varieties of potato skins. Several appetizers may be ordered in "medium" or "large" serving sizes, with prices adjusted accordingly.

For example, a medium-sized order of fried clam strips is priced at $4.99, while a large-sized portion is priced at $6.95.

The pizza menu hosts eight-slice [small] 12-slice [medium] and 24-slice [party-size] pizzas with up to five toppings or a special "combo" pizza. Specialty pizzas are also available in a variety of sizes. Specialty options include broccoli, Philly Cheese Steak, veggie lovers, and Florida pizza.

A selection of wrap-style sandwiches, calzones, stromboli, and 38 pita and grinder-style sandwiches are listed on the menu.

A "Moulton's Specials" list includes "Chicken In The Basket,"[$8.50] a sliced steak on garlic bread sandwich [$7], and "Chicken Souvlaki Deluxe" [$6.50].

I ordered a small Spinach Pie/Greek Salad combo [$6.50] from the salad menu. A good-sized pastry filled with spinach was served on a plate with a Greek salad smothered in crumbled feta cheese, cucumbers, tomatoes, black olives and onions. Salads are accompanied by garlic bread.

The salads are also offered as small, large, or family-size portions. Choices include a "Moulton Special Salad" with bacon, chicken, egg,, cheese, lettuce, tomato, red onions, cucumber, olives and green peppers [small, $6.75], a Cobb salad with lettuce, tomato, onions, green pepper, olives, cucumber, turkey, egg and American cheese [small,$5.50], and an Antipasto salad with lettuce, tomato, onions, olives cucumber, green pepper, pepperoncini, ham, genoa salami, pepperoni, and cheese [small $6.50].

The salads are generously sized.

My supper companion ordered ziti with meatballs from the "Dinner Entrees" section. Dinners from that menu section are served with garlic bread and salad. The tasty ziti entree was served as an extremely large portion and the garlic bread was deemed flavorful.

The bill, which included coffee and a soft drink, totaled $17.09 including the state meals tax.

Dinner entree choices include spaghetti or ziti served with diners choice of red or white clam sauce, meatballs, sausage and peppers, mushrooms, meat sauce, or sauce with mozzarella cheese. Prices for the spaghetti or ziti meals range from $6 to $7.75. Additional entrees include lasagna [$7.75],manicotti [$7.75], shrimp and broccoli ziti [$9.25], and shrimp parmigiana [$10.50].

The menu goes beyond these items to "Sauteed Specials" that include chicken stir fry [$10.75] and chicken broccoli in garlic sauce [$9.75], as well as seafood options listed as "From The Deep Sea" and a vast selection of "club" and traditional sandwiches.

The menu does not list any dessert items.

Moulton's Pizzeria could not be described as a "fine dining" restaurant. It is a family-fare restaurant with an affordable menu so extensive that it is hard to imagine a family who would be unable to find something for everyone.

"$5.99 plus tax" lunch specials are offered from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m..

Moulton's Pizzeria is open Mon.-Thurs. 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., Fri.-Sat. 11 a.m.-11 p.m., and Sun. noon-10 p.m.. Food may be ordered by calling 413-663-3770 or 413-664-6279.

Susan Bush may be reached via e-mail at suebush@iberkshires.com or at 413-663-3384 ext. 26.

We went there a couple of months ago. When we got there they forgot to make our pizza. We had to wait while they made it. My sister went today got home ( in Clarksburg) and they gave her the wrong pizza. The owner said they could either take the pizza or have their money back and get one somewhere else. Just letting people know of the great customer service.

Anyone who can possibly have anything bad to say must not have tried Moultons in the last 6 months. It's by far the best pizza I have had anywhere in the area. The pita pockets are huge and really over stuffed. Try the chicken salad or cheese steak. Both of them are great. If you want wings, fries, onion rings, etc. eat in because fried food isnt the same delivered no matter who makes it. Whenever you go in the place is full and the phone is ringing off the hook. Definitely go back. Pizza is the best around North Adams.

After almost giving up on Moulton's I have to say they are back and way better than ever! I ate the bad pizza described by the previous poster and all I can say is he should go back and try it now. Improvement is an understatement. Try their wings, yummy!

Sorry but the first (and last time) I ordered a pizza from Moulton’s Pizzeria I brought it home only to find it lacking cheese, pizza without cheese is not a good pizza.
My option of their pizza is low, it had no taste, small potions of toppings, and a crust that is like eating bisquick, maybe I caught them on a bad night but I doubt it as I was they only customer in the store..
NJorth Adams is lacking a good pizza parlor.

Our agency orders lunch together on Fridays. We tried the Moulton's Pizzeria a week ago and we were all very satified.
The stromboli was $8.95 and HUGH and could feed a family of four with a salad on the side. The greek salad with spinach pie was excellent and came with grape leaves. Someone had one of the wraps and it was very good also!
Everyone was very pleased with the quality, taste and prices.
We will certainly be ordering from there again!
