Spice to Close for Lunch, But Now Open on Sundays - May 17, 2007
Spice Restaurant will stop offering lunch on weekdays beginning Friday, May 18. However, the downtown dining venue is now open on Sundays for lunch, dinner and afternoon snacks and drinks.
The decision to close for lunch is the result of construction being performed on Burger (Spice's burger joint), Sugar (Spice's full-service dessert bar) and a second upstairs banquet room that will accommodate up to 300 people.
"Contractors are performing major structural work that involves hammering, drilling and sawing with heavy equipment," said Spice owner Joyce Bernstein. "It's noisy and creating quite a mess, and we don't want to subject our lunch patrons to such an unpleasant environment.
"Originally we expected the work could be done on Mondays, but this proved to be overly optimistic. It just makes more sense to close during the day and let the work proceed as quickly as possible." “We are excited about our new Sunday hours, customers have been asking us to serve on Sunday since the day we opened ” The restaurant will be open from 11:30 AM – 2:30 PM for lunch and brunch and dinner will be served 5:00 – 9 PM. The bar and lounge will be open 2:30 – 9:00 PM and the lounge menu will be available.
Current plans call for Burger to debut on the July 4th weekend, with the other new rooms opening later this year. Burger will feature such menu items as burgers, hot dogs, and French fries with a variety of toppings. Beer, wine and spiked milk shakes will also be available.
"We're very excited about the prospects for Burger," said Bernstein. "It will have a very casual, family-friendly atmosphere that will appeal to adults and kids alike. We are doing fun, fast food." |
