NORTH ADAMS - The Main Street Stage will produce "The Mystery of Irma Vep: A Penny Dreadful," written by Charles Ludlam, founder of The Ridiculous Theatre Company, this fall.
"Irma Vep" is a Drama Desk and Obie Award-winning play written in 1984 and one of Ludlam's most popular works. The comedy is a tribute to and spoof on well-known film classics such as "Wuthering Heights," "The Mummy's Curse" and
Alfred Hitchcock's Oscar-winning "Rebecca."
Sisters Alexia Trainor and Justina Trova will play all eight roles. Wendy Walraven will direct and Marissa Carleson will be stage managing.
The play opens Friday, Oct. 26, and will run Fridays and Saturdays until Nov. 10. Community pay-what-you-can-night is Thursday, Nov. 1.
The play will be part of Main Street Stage's fall fund-raiser "Phantasmagoria" on Friday, Oct. 26, and Saturday, Oct. 27. That weekend only, the event will begin at 6 p.m. with hors d’oeuvres and wine. Ticket prices are $35 per person or $50 a couple. All proceeds will go toward Main Street Stage's 2008 season. Tickets may be purchased in advance at Papyri Book Store on Eagle Street in North Adams, Where'd You Get That? on Spring Street in
Williamstown or by calling the box office.
All other shows will begin at 8 p.m. Ticket prices are $20 general admission, $15 seniors and $10 students. Seating is limited.

MONTPELIER, Vt. -- Four Vermont pitchers combined to strike out 11 and allow four hits Tuesday as the Mountaineers beat the North Adams SteepleCats, 11-0, in New England Collegiate Baseball League action.
Evan Meier, Bobby Stang, Tonny Woodie and Chris Diaz each had a hit for the SteepleCats, who used five pitchers in the loss.
North Adams (0-2) comes home Tuesday to host the Mystic Schooners at 6:30 p.m. at Joe Wolfe Field.
