Ever think you'd see that price again? This was taken in Stamford but there are reports some North Adams' gas stations are that low as well.

HPV Awareness Night at MCLA

- November 06, 2007

The local Beta Lambda Sorority and Peers Universalizing Sexual Health (PUSH) will present an HPV Awareness Night in the Sullivan Lounge, in the Amsler Campus Center at Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts (MCLA), on Thursday, Nov. 8, from 5:30 to 8 p.m.

Speaking at the event will be MCLA psychology professor Deborah Foss and Jodi Tierney, director of health services at MCLA. In addition, students Brandee Simone and Erin McManus will perform folk songs.

The event is free and open to the public.

Sara Valero, vice president of the sorority, said the event is being held to promote awareness about the Human Papilloma Virus (HPV), its detection, prevention and support for women.

“Each year, hundreds of women are diagnosed with HPV,” said Fayla Coons, one of the event’s organizers. “We’re hoping that this awareness night will help women understand and prevent HPV.” Approximately 20 million people are infected with HPV. At least 50 percent of sexually active men and women acquire the infection at some point in their lives, according to the Center for Disease Control.

Donors of prizes to be raffled off with the proceeds given to charity include Dragonflii, Papa Gino’s, Moulton’s Pizzeria, Jack’s Hot Dog Stand, Molly’s Bakery, Papyri Books and JC Penney Salon. In addition, PUSH will be giving a quiz for someone to win a gift basket.
