Yuck!
There's a winter storm warning in effect until 7 a.m. on Thursday with 2 to 4 inches of snow expected. Be prepared for a messy morning commute as freezing rain and sleet move through the region. The morning commute will be slippery — drive careful!

Some New York schools, including Hoosick Falls Central School and St. Mary's Academy in Hoosick Falls have already canceled classes.

All North County schools are closed; Pittsfield, Lanesborough, Berkshire Hills, Southern Berkshire and Central Berkshire school districts are closed.
Duff'em If You've Got'em
North Adams Regional Hospital went smoke-free Monday — so did all its sister sites, from Sweet Brook to Northern Berkshire Family Practice to the Women's Exchange. No ashtrays, no smoking: No butts about it.

Berkshire Concert Choir Slates Two Performances

- December 07, 2007

PITTSFIELD - The Berkshire Concert Choir, directed by John E. Cheney, presents "Ring the Bells," a concert of classical and traditional Christmas choral music.

There will be two performances, each sung by a choir of 47 members together with piano, harp and oboe. In addition, St. Stephen's Church will once again provide handbells and bell ringers to accompany the choir.

The concerts will feature selections from Benjamin Britten's famous collection of carols for choir and harp "A Ceremony of Carols," along with other newly composed and arranged Christmas pieces. As a favorite annual custom, the audience will be invited to join the choir in singing several traditional Christmas carols.

The first performance will be at St. Ann's Church on Main Street in Lenox at 7:30 p.m. on Dec. 14; the second, at Zion's Evangelical Lutheran Church on First Street at 4 p.m. on Dec. 15. Following the Friday concert, the audience will be invited to a reception in the newly constructed St. Ann's parish center for refreshments and to mingle with the choir and its guest performers.

From the soprano section, Madonna Meagher will provide the solo lead in "A Ceremony of Carols" with guest harpist Teresa Mango providing the accompaniment. The choir's own Anne Marcure will accompany on piano, along with guest performer Fredric Cohen on oboe for several pieces.

Tickets are $15 and $12 for students/seniors and are available at the door or from any choir member. Children 12 and under are free.

The choir continues its tradition of bringing quality music to the Berkshire County area using the talents of singers from Western Massachusetts and eastern New York. Last spring, it joined forces with the three Pittsfield high schools in performing a concert at the Colonial theater. The choir welcomes all singers to consider joining them. Those interested should contact Cheney at (413) 443-4758 to reserve a place for the upcoming spring season.

More information on the Christmas program and the choir is available at www.bhsinging.org or by calling (413) 442-6120.
