The Berkshires received several inches of snow this morning, but not enough to close schools, unlike yesterday's sleety mess. Temperatures will drop into the 20s this afternoon. A few more snow showers are expected through the weekend. |

BCC Spring Registration Session Set at McCann - December 18, 2007
NORTH ADAMS - Berkshire Community College will hold an advising and registration session at McCann Technical School on Tuesday, Jan. 15, from 4:30 to 6. Although not required, appointments are encouraged.
This session is only for BCC courses held at McCann. Advising and registration for all other BCC credit courses must be made through BCC's Academic Advising Center on the main campus in Pittsfield.
BCC credit courses to be held at McCann during the spring semester include the following. Unless otherwise noted, classes meet from 5:30 to 8:30.
"Introduction to Criminology," (CRJ-200) an introductory study of criminal behaviors focuses on the changes in the crime rate, law, theory, and knowledge about the major forms of crime. Classes meet on Monday.
"Special Needs in Early Childhood," (ECE-122) covers the role of the teacher in identification, evaluation, and planning for special needs in infant, toddler, and preschool classrooms. The course teaches the breadth of problems found in special needs child care, from educational, family, and community perspectives. Classes meet on Wednesday from 6 to 9.
"Introduction to Nutrition," (AHS-150) is a focus on the fundamental principles and practices essential in nutrition to maintain health. This course emphasizes improvement of nutritional status through proper diet. Classes meet on Wednesday.
"Cultural Anthropology," (ANT-101) is an introduction to the peoples and cultures of the world. This course investigates the factors that produce different ways of life, belief systems, and behavior patterns, and examines what is considered "normal" from the perspective of different cultures. Classes meet on Wednesday.
"Western Civilization I," (HIS-113) is an examination of the development of Western society and its institutions from their roots in Mesopotamia through ancient Greece and Rome, the Middle Ages and early Europe to the Renaissance. Classes meet on Thursday.
"Applied Contemporary Mathematics," (MAT-101) an examination of a variety of mathematical concepts focuses on solving problems, interpreting data, and applications. This course includes topics such as tables, graphs, basic statistics, geometric measures and consumer mathematics. Classes meet on Tuesdays.
"Mathematics Modules," (MAT-800) allows students who are intimidated by regular mathematics courses to progress at their own rate, decide individually when they are ready to be tested, and to work and study in a no-failure environment. Two sections are being offered, one on Monday evenings, the other on Wednesday evenings from 5 to 8.
"Composition I," (ENG-101) introduces college-level composition. Essay assignments include description, narration, and exposition, with an emphasis on exposition. Classes meet on Thursday.
"Composition II," (ENG-102) is a continuation of ENG 101, with emphasis on extending students' reading, writing, and thinking skills. Essay assignments include exemplification, analysis, comparison/contrast, and argumentation. Classes meet on Tuesdays.
"Introduction to the Novel," (ENG 216) is a survey of fiction, emphasizing longer works. Various types of novels will be examined; other literary forms may be included for comparative study. Classes meet on Mondays.
