United Way Grant to BFAIR for OT Equipment

Berkshire Family and Individual Resources has been awarded a small grant from Northern Berkshire United Way to purchase new occupational therapy equipment for its Day Habilitation Center on South Church Street in North Adams. BFAIR’s Day Habilitation Center provides adults with developmental disabilities individualized services utilizing a medical model with community integration options such as volunteerism and recreational activities.

The new equipment will permit BFAIR’s Occupational Therapist consultant to conduct OT exercises at the Day Hab. Furthermore, according to BFAIR Executive Director Rich Weisenflue, after an initial clinical visit the agency’s consultant can train BFAIR staff to conduct exercises. “The new equipment will allow for ongoing therapy at no additional cost to the agency and most importantly it will greatly enhance a person’s overall health and ability to function as independently as possible,” he said.

BFAIR’s Day Habilitation Program is nationally accredited through CARF, the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities.
