Sunday, February 3, Last Sunday After Epiphany

Service of Worship at 10:30 am

The Rev. Carrie Bail will deliver a sermon entitled “Instant Communication” based on the scriptures Exodus 24:12-18 and Matthew 17:1-9.

Under the direction of guest organist Jane Jenkins, the Senior Choir will perform Malcolm Williamson’s “Christ, Whose Glory Fills the Skies,” with words by Charles Wesley as the Introit, and Joel Martinson’s  “Transfiguration,” with words by Carl P. Daw, Jr., as the Anthem.

Stewardship Cluster Meeting from Noon-1:30 pm

Tuesday: Koinonia Meeting at 10 am

Ash Wednesday: Service at 5:30 pm

Potluck Supper at 6 pm

Adult Lenten Series with Dick Ford at 7 pm

On Wednesday evenings, starting February 6, and for approximately eight weeks Richard Q. Ford will lead an adult Lenten study series based on DVDs filmed across Turkey, Greece, and Italy by eminent New Testament scholars Marcus Borg and John Dominic Crossan, entitled “Eclipsing Empire: Paul, Rome, and the Kingdom of God.” There will be a potluck supper from 6-7 p.m.; followed by the DVD presentation and discussion from 7-8:15 p.m. On Feb. 6 the first two segments - I Empire, II Jesus - will be shown.

Thursday: Junior Choir rehearsal at 3:15 pm

Senior Choir rehearsal at 7:30 pm

Saturday: Habitat Crew Spaghetti Supper from 5-9 pm

The dinner will feature a delicious menu of salad, garlic bread, spaghetti with meatballs and/or vegetarian sauce, and a choice of desserts and non-alcoholic beverages. Tickets are $10 adults, $5 children, $ 8 seniors and students, and $25 for a family of four. The Habitat Crew is a service group for high school students, sponsored by the First Congregational Church. All proceeds will benefit a week long mission trip to build houses in South Carolina.
