More Snow
The Berkshires received several inches of snow this morning, but not enough to close schools, unlike yesterday's sleety mess. Temperatures will drop into the 20s this afternoon. A few more snow showers are expected through the weekend. |

Local Clergy Turn Pulpits Into Classrooms - March 19, 2008
OLLI (Osher Lifelong Learning Institute) has planned an exciting and unique learning experience on comparative religion. Local Berkshire County clergy will discuss the history and basic tenets of their religion for an OLLI course entitled, I Believe. Unlike other OLLI courses taught at local colleges, here each respective house of worship will serve as a classroom for the one and one-half hour presentations.
The clergy represent six different faiths—United Church of Christ (Congregational), Catholic, Baptist, Episcopalian, Jewish, and Methodist. Two ministers are women. The classes take place on consecutive Wednesday mornings from April 16th through May 21st from 10:15am to 11:45am. All houses of worship are located in Williamstown except for the synagogue which is located right over the border from Williamstown in North Adams.
Whatever you believe, examination of different religious beliefs provides a deeper understanding of human behavior and societies. Religion is everywhere in our lives – in popular culture and at the center of global conflicts and cultural misunderstandings. For both believers and non-believers - for everyone who wants to be informed about the world around them - religion is an intensely curious phenomenon that calls out for better understanding. Expect thought-provoking discussions presented by our own local religious leaders.
I Believe…is one of 22 OLLI courses offered this spring. For more information on this and other OLLI courses, call the OLLI office at (413) 236-2190 or visit www.BerkshireOLLI.org |
