SPROUT Traveling Film Festival and Art Show

Williamstown - Images Cinema will host the SPROUT Traveling Film Festival and an art show titled "Eye Candy" on Sunday, April 6 starting at 2pm. The events are presented by BCARC Down Syndrome Family Group. Tickets are available from Images Cinema, or through Berkshire County Arc at 413.458.4241 ext 265, and are $5; free for persons under 18. Images Cinema is located at 50 Spring Street, Williamstown, MA.

Film Festival, 2pm

Dreams, 4 minutes. This fun, inspirational short video presents children and adults with Down syndrome, talking about their dreams and triumphs.

Outside\Inside, 7 minutes. This innovative short film invites us into the world of a young man who has autism and muteness. In his own words, with the creative use of digitation, a communication board and the camera, we are offered an intimate glimpse into the challenges and frustrations of his everyday life.

Outsider: Life and Art of Judith Scott, 26 minutes. From a lifetime of institutionalization to international acclaim in the art world, this film is an intimate portrait of a compelling, eccentric and talented individual who has prevailed in the face of daunting odds.

WYSIWIG, 10 minutes. Three impressive performance pieces by adults with developmental disabilities fuse exhilarating dance, cutting edge technology and film. The result is an artistic multi-media achievement

Emma's Gifts, 45 minutes. Emma was born with Down Syndrome, which makes her different from her twin sister. In telling Emma's story through the eyes of her parents, the film challenges our perception of difference.


A Gift From God, 3 minutes. In the United Arab Emirates, children with Down syndrome are often hidden away at home or in hospitals. One exceptional family and their love for their child form the focus of this moving documentary.

Jimmy, 2 Minutes. A short music video with a surprise ending.

Former Harry's Supermarket Under Construction for Restaurant

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Construction is underway to transform the former Harry's Supermarket into a restaurant

Late last month, the Conservation Commission greenlit some tree pruning on the property. New windows and a new door can be seen in the front of the building. 

"It's a substantial renovation that's currently underway here," Brent White of White Engineering said, speaking on behalf of the applicant and owner, Huajie Zhu. 

A fire gutted the longtime Wahconah Street supermarket in 2023, and the following year, Zhu purchased the property for $460,000 two years ago to build a restaurant with hibachi in the existing footprint of the more than 100-year-old building. 

White explained that the project has been ongoing for over a year, and the Community Development Board granted the property a waiver to reduce the minimum required number of parking spaces so that additional spaces aren't needed.  

He noted that, looking at the site plan, there is very little room to do so. A mirror will be installed near the sharp turn on Bel Air Avenue to alleviate traffic concerns. 

Pruning will be done on trees in the southeast corner of the existing paved parking lot, as a number of branches are hanging over. The new owners also intend to patch, sealcoat, and re-stripe the parking lot. 

A fire tore through the building less than an hour after the supermarket closed for the day three years ago. An automatic sprinkler system is required for the new use.
