Lanesborough Teacher Named BPW Young Careerist

- April 14, 2008

WILLIAMSTOWN — Katherine Lamb of Williamstown was named the 2008 Young Careerist for the Western District of the Business and Professional Women's organization on April 12.

She will represent the Western District at the state convention in Westborough from May 16-18. Lamb claimed the Berkshire title on Feb. 4 when she competed against three other candidates.

Lamb is a third-grade teacher at Lanesborough Elementary School. She earned her bachelor's degree from Rhodes College and her master's in education from Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts. She also is a graduate of the Berkshire Leadership Program and a provisional member of the Junior League class of 2008.

Each Young Careerist candidate is interviewed by a panel of judges, answers questions related to the national BPW legislative platform and gives a prepared speech. The candidates are given a choice of 10 topics selected by the national organization, BPW USA.

The Virginia Allan Young Careerist Program is sponsored by Business and Professional Women/USA  to highlight the achievements of women and men between the ages of 21 and 35 who are or who have been employed in business or the professions. Candidates must have at least one year of full-time work experience, live or work in their district and who support the mission, vision and legislative platform of the organization.

The group's mission is to promote full participation, equity, and economic self-sufficiency for America's working women.  The local organization meets the first Monday of every month starting at 5:30 p.m. at Asters Restaurant in Pittsfield.
