Chow Time And New Discovery Programs At The Berkshire Museum
PITTSFIELD – Beginning May 3, visitors to the Berkshire Museum in downtown Pittsfield may see live animal feedings every weekend. The Discovery Program “Chow Time” will take place every Saturday at 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. and every Sunday at 1:30 p.m. Aquarium staff will feed different fish, reptiles, or amphibians at each session. The Berkshire Museum will also offer the Discovery Program “What’s the Story” on Saturdays, May 3-31, at 1 p.m. The program will explore the new exhibition What’s the Story; visitors will learn to tell stories through words and images, inspired by what they see in a different gallery each week. Discovery Programs are included with Berkshire Museum admission.
The Berkshire Museum aquarium features more than thirty tanks and assorted terrariums housing both native and exotic fish, reptiles, and amphibians, ranging from frogs and turtle species that inhabit Berkshire ponds to 25 species of coral.
What’s the Story, on view April 26-June 1, explores how artists—and museums tell stories. Approximately 40 works of art from the 16th-century to the present, as well as selected historical artifacts and natural science, illustrate storytelling, ranging from Biblical, historical, and mythological tales to people and folklore of the Berkshires. Artists represented include Leonard Baskin, Benjamin West, Edward Moran, Adriaen Isenbrandt, Norman Rockwell, Bessie Borris, Ammi Phillips, Marsden Hartley, Suzy Frelinghuysen, Keith Haring, Jules Olitski, Peter Garfield, and William Adolphe Bouguereau. What’s the Story is sponsored by TD Banknorth.
The Berkshire Museum is located at 39 South Street on Route 7 in Downtown Pittsfield. The galleries and aquarium are open Monday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sundays noon to 5 p.m. Admission is $10 for adults, $5 for children ages 3-18.
