A successful completion of the three-day April Phone-A-Thon & Fund Drive - May 05, 2008
Great Barrington - Berkshire South Regional Community Center announces the successful completion of the three-day April Phone-A-Thon & Fund Drive, the results of which support close to $5,000 in programming access for children and families in need.
An enthusiastic team of Trustees and volunteers spent three evenings contacting Community Center members and supporters asking for donations and pledges. The final figure raised from approximately 125 donors was close to $5,000.
Berkshire South, which is open 360 days a year and which has the largest after school program for children in the area, offers a broad range of programs and opportunities for southern Berkshire residents and guests of all ages. Only approximately 70% of the cost of each membership is covered by the membership fee, and the Center awards over $75,000 in financial aid to local community members and families each year. In addition to the regular programming, three different summer camp experiences are being offered for children ages 5 through 17, with financial aid available for qualified families. The proceeds of this fundraiser will help facilitate that financial support.
With a broad breadth and scope of programming for people of all ages, Berkshire South also has a strong commitment to senior programs designed to help those with limited movement live a more comfortable and active life. Numerous exercise classes for adults of all ages and abilities that help maintain optimum health are available, in addition to several classes and services specifically geared toward individuals with physical handicaps.
