Lanesborough News: Detour Set for Mall Road RepairBy Al Hartheimer - May 12, 2008 Lanesborough News
LANESBOROUGH — A detour will be necessary while the Mall Road is being rebuilt.
Berkshire Mall manager Joseph Scelsi and Mark Seigors, the mall's attorney, who are working to complete the funding for the road, told the Selectmen last week about the proposed detour and asked the board for a resolution approving it.
After some discussion, the board unanimously approved a resolution that cites the proposed detour with several conditions.
The detour will be from Route 7 to Summer Street to Partridge Road to the reconstructed original access road to the mall. The conditions are that a liaison to the mall management be appointed to address concerns as they arise; that a police officer is to be on duty at the entrance to Lanesborough Elementary School; that periodic traffic surveys are to be made; that intersection improvements are to be implemented for safety and that the detour is to be resurfaced when the job is finished.

Also at last Monday's meeting, Peter Beaudoin appealed to the board to lift the cease-and-desist order on his motocross track and to permit his children to ride on the track without restrictions.
Beaudoin stated that he had sent a letter to Elizabeth Drury of the Board of Health to that effect. Changing or lifting the order is a function of the Board of Health. Beaudoin said he will post the property that no one is allowed to ride except his children.
The Board of Health lifted the ban for Tuesday, May 6, so that members could go to the track to hear firsthand the noise of the track being used. The board and several others did go to the track but no opinion of the operation has been stated. The order is in effect unless and until the Board of Health acts.
Beaudoin also stated that he has reworked the track to minimize the noise and that the track is now 100 yards from his neighbor's property.
With respect to a violation that occurred, Beaudoin said "someone" with an all-terrain vehicle came off the mountain and rode on the track. Beaudoin said he stopped the person and told him to leave.
