Dr. Jeremy Yudkin On Beethoven
Dr. Jeremy Yudkin, Professor of Music at Boston University and artistic director of the Tanglewood Music Seminars, will lead a morning presentation on Ludwig Van Beethoven, entitled, “The Best Bits: Beethoven’s Genius in a Few Measures.” The lecture will take place at Berkshire Community College, Koussevitzky Building, Room K111, on Saturday, June 14th from 11:00 AM to 12:30 PM. The lecture is sponsored by the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) at BCC.Beethoven is considered the standard-bearer for the entire Romantic period of music. Dr. Yudkin will take a close look at the individual elements that make Beethoven’s music so powerful and appealing. Yudkin will demonstrate how these elements contribute to the power of his music. Excerpts from Beethoven’s piano concertos, string quartets, symphonies, and piano sonatas will be played and discussed.
Dr. Yudkin is a gifted lecturer known for his ability to combine musical analysis with biographical background, historical anecdotes, and humor to describe what goes into creating a musical composition. Past audiences have commented that Dr. Yudkin teaches his audiences how to listen to music with greater pleasure and insight.
