Hand-bordering demonstration set for Crane Museum

- July 17, 2008

DALTON – The Crane Museum of Papermaking will host a demonstration of hand-bordering on Crane stationery Friday, July 25, from 1 to 5 p.m.

Louise Pluta, a borderer with more than 10 years of experience, will demonstrate her craft, which has been passed down through several generations of artisans at Crane.

Bordered stationery has long been a hallmark of hand-craftsmanship at Crane, which produces bordered sheets, notes, cards and envelopes for its more than 2,000 independent retailers.

Applying borders by hand is a delicate and demanding process that requires up to a year of practice before a borderer can master the craft.

The event is free and open to the public. The Crane Museum of Papermaking is located at 60 Pioneer Drive – the first right on East Housatonic Street after it turns off Routes 8&9 in Dalton.
