More Snow

The Berkshires received several inches of snow this morning, but not enough to close schools, unlike yesterday's sleety mess. Temperatures will drop into the 20s this afternoon. A few more snow showers are expected through the weekend.

We have reports that the roads are very slippery to take care in the evening commute.

Dukes' Langfels wins Throwing Competition at NECBL All Star Game

Michael Radomski - July 21, 2008
Pittsfield Dukes

TORRINGTON, CT. - Dukes third baseman Jayson Langfels (Eastern Kentucky) won the infield portion of the throwing competition at the 15th Annual NECBL All Star Game tonight.

Prior to the All Star Game, various players from the Northern and Southern Division competed in the sixty yard dash, home run derby, and throwing competitions.

Langfels competed against some of the best infielders in the NECBL including Joe Depinto (Torrington), Jonathan Roof (Vermont) and Nicolas Pecora (Lowell).

With backhanding ability and his strong throws to first, Langfels secured the victory and took home the Dukes’ only award in the skills competitions.

Duke the Dog, the Pittsfield Dukes mascot, was also in the skills competition as he competed against mascots from other NECBL teams. Duke the Dog and Skip the Vermont Mountaineer mascot went neck and neck in the mascot home run derby, but Skip defeated Duke on the last swing as his ball went a few inches further than Duke’s ball in the infield.

The Southern Division All Stars defeated the Northern Division 5-2 in the game at Fuessenich Park in Torrington, Connecticut. Eight Dukes players competed in the game and Newport catcher Mike Melillo was named the MVP of the game.

The Dukes next game will be at the Danbury Westerners on Tuesday night beginning at seven o’clock. Louie Bernardini (Wheaton College) is the probable starter.

The next Dukes home game is Wednesday night when Pittsfield hosts the Manchester Silkworms in a potential playoff preview beginning at seven o’clock.

Fans can listen to the game and all Pittsfield Dukes games on the NECBL Broadcast Network by going to the site at http://www.teamline.cc/sportpage?teamcode=6301&eventcode=5 Tickets are still available for Dukes’ games at Wahconah Park. Tickets can be purchased at the Dukes box office at 105 Wahconah Street or by calling 413 447 DUKE (3853).
