John R. Burbidge returns to Ventfort Hall - July 25, 2008
LENOX - John R. Burbidge will return to Ventfort Hall Mansion and Gilded Age Museum on Thursday, August 28, to lecture on his meticulously crafted masterwork “Les Petites Dames de Mode” (“The Little Ladies of Fashion”), an exhibit on view at the historic Lenox estate. He will present his visual talk at 4 p.m. followed by a Victorian Tea.
Due to enormous and enthusiastic public response, his collection of 60 miniature “fashion models” has been on view since May 2007. The Little Ladies, each 29 inches tall, portray the history of women’s fashion from 1855 to 1914. He is the retired Senior Designer for the famed bridal house of Priscilla of Boston and this dazzling assemblage represents the culmination of almost 30 years of research and exacting effort for authenticity and painstaking detail.
For his lecture Burbidge will describe what inspired him to create the historically correct costumes on a group of “perfect little ladies,” reduced in scale. Each outfit is an original design by Burbidge who imagined himself working as a designer in past eras.
Admission for the lecture and tea is $15 per person, members $12. The “Little Ladies” exhibit will be open for viewing at the time of the lecture. For more information or reservations, call 413-637-3206. Ventfort Hall is located at 104 Walker Street in Lenox. |
