Pittsfield Downtown Festival of Sharing Roots - July 25, 2008
 | | Dancers representing different cultures are expected to participate during a Sept. 6 "Festival of Sharing Roots" in Pittsfield. | PITTSFIELD - Food, music and dance from diverse cultures will be spotlighted during a September 6 downtown Festival of Sharing Roots. St Joseph Parish is hosting the festival. This is the 5th annual event which highlights the many cultures that comprise the parish. This event has been a huge success in the past four years and we are all looking forward to another great year. The festival is scheduled to begin at noon and ends at 6 p.m. on the St. Joseph Parish grounds in downtown Pittsfield at 414 North Street. It will be held rain or shine. Admission is free and is open to the public. The festival was started in 2004. Key to organizing the festival was to bring people together after the 9/11 tragedy in a peaceful way and recognizes the backgrounds and contributions of the many nationalities within the parish. This diversity will be apparent through booths sponsored by ten different nationalities with authentic food for sale. The cultures represented include American, Brazilian, French, Greek, Irish, Italian, Latino, Lebanese, Polish and Vietnamese. To allow more crafter's the opportunity to participate, the craft area has been expanded. New this year will be a fuel oil raffle along with the traditional food basket raffle, Chinese raffle and lottery tree raffle. A White Elephant Tag Sale will be located in the church driveway. Once again there will be "kiddy land" with Mr. Bouncy Bounce, face painting and games for everyone. Entertainment will begin at noon featuring local vocalist, dancers and musicians. The continuous performances will be accompanied by a professional sound system and will take place on the City Stage. A Mass will be held at 4 p.m. in St. Joseph Church with Prayer of the Faithful spoken in eight different languages to acknowledge the diversity of the parish community.
