SteepleCats sweep doubleheaderChad Cooper - July 28, 2008 North Adams SteepleCats
North Adams jumped on the board right away in the first inning as John Malloy led off with a single and moved to second on a sacrifice. After Malloy moved to third on a passed ball, he would come into score on a groundout by Jonny Smith for a 1-0 SteepleCats lead.
Danbury, playing as the home team in the first game of the doubleheader, came back through the help of the SteepleCats as they plated four runs on just one hit as North Adams committed three errors in the inning to give the Westerners a 4-1 edge.
After the first inning, the game belonged to North Adams as the SteepleCats would plate five in the third to take a 6-4 lead, the big shot a two-run single from Ryan Semeniuk.
Neither team would plate a run again until the seventh when the SteepleCats, with the aid of two errors from Danbury would send 12 men to the plate, scoring seven runs, taking a commanding 14-4 lead.
Matt Sommo (3-3) turned in a gritty six innings without his best stuff, allowing four runs, none of them earned. He walked seven, striking out four. Ryan Hagan (0-3) took the game one loss for Danbury.
In the nightcap, the game was scoreless into the fourth when with two outs, the SteepleCats plated a run on a throwing error by Melvin Castillo, scoring T. J. Greif to make it 1-0 North Adams.
After John Malloy led off the sixth inning with a bunt single, he was sacrificed to second. Two batters later, Cody Stanley gave North Adams some insurance, doubling to left-centerfield, scoring Malloy to make it 2-0 SteepleCats.
The lead was more than enough for Craig Crumbly (3-1) who was brilliant tossing a complete game shutout, allowing four hits, walking two and striking out six. Chris Camastro (1-2) was the tough luck loser for Danbury.
