Register now for fall classes and workshops at IS183 Art School. This fall IS183 offers over 50 different classes and workshops in ceramics, painting, drawing, jewelry, photography and other mediums for children, teens and adults. Classes are held during the daytime, evenings and weekends, for everyone from the absolute beginner to the more experienced artist.In the Painting Studio Paula Gottlieb offers all the necessary essentials for portrait painting on Monday afternoons, in “Portraits in Water Soluble Paints”. June Parker returns to IS183 with “Pastels: Exploring the Medium” on Tuesday mornings. Oil painters looking for a new challenge will want to register for Ben Tritt’s Thursday evening class, “Advanced Painting”. Learn the fundamentals or advance your drawing skills with Yura Adams in “Portrait Drawing Studio” on Friday afternoons.
In Ceramics on Monday morning Paula Shalan offers “Smoke and Fire”, and on Tuesday mornings “Slab Building and the Decorated Surface.” Nancy Magnusson’s “Intro to Ceramics” a two part mini series for students interested in learning the foundations of ceramics runs on Friday mornings. Also offered in the Ceramic’s studio is a nine week Wednesday evening wheelworking course taught by studio manager, Ben Evans beginning in October.
Photography courses offered this fall include Jason Houston’s “Next Steps” a course designed for the digital photographer. Will Wendt’s “Traditional Darkroom: B&W and Color in Great Barrington” offers students individualized instruction in film developing and processing. Cassandra Sohn’s “You know the Basics, Now Tell the Story...Making the Camera See What You Envision” gives photographers some new insights on creating their own personal style.
Other mediums include “Equestrian Sculpture” with Philip Howie, on Mondays in September. James Kennedy is back in a new time slot with “Jewelry Making and Lost Wax Casting” on Tuesday mornings and Wendy Jensen returns on Thursday afternoons to teach her ever popular Basket making course.
Young Artists ages 3 to 15 can register for after school programs ranging from “Exploring Fall with Art and Science” for grades 1-5, “Squeeze and Squish” for grades PreK-1 to “Urban Landscape for Teens in Pittsfield”
