Anonymous donor funds gift of information on Chronic Fatigue Syndrome to local libraries

- August 27, 2008

NORTH ADAMS - The REACH Community Health Foundation, through the gift an anonymous donor, has purchased and donated books on chronic fatigue syndrome to seven local libraries.

The books were donated to Adams, Cheshire, Clarksburg, Florida, North Adams, Savoy and Williamstown libraries. The titles include: “Living Well with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and Fibromyalgia; Chronic Fatigue Syndrome: A comprehensive guide to symptoms, treatments and solving the practical problems; The Feel Good Guide to Fibromyalgia and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome; and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, Fibromyalgia and other hidden illnesses.”

REACH was also able to coordinate a presentation by Dr. Paula Aucoin on chronic fatigue syndrome last fall through the fund of the anonymous donor. The presentation was recorded for Northern Berkshire Community Television Channel 15. The presentation will be re-aired on Sunday, September 7th at 3:00 pm.

Chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) also known as chronic fatigue and immune dysfunction syndrome (CFIDS) is a serious and complex illness that affects the brain and multiple body systems.

“Being able to provide information on chronic fatigue syndrome that was also easily accessible to the community was important to the anonymous donor,” said REACH Executive Director Deborah Simmons. “We hope that the Northern Berkshire community takes advantage of this valuable resource.”

In addition, REACH has put together packets of information on chronic fatigue syndrome that will be distributed to all Northern Berkshire healthcare providers.

The REACH Community Health Foundation is the community education arm of Northern Berkshire Healthcare and is dedicated to improving the health and wellness of the Northern Berkshire community. REACH coordinates programs in fitness and nutrition, breast cancer support and care navigation, caregiver support, tobacco cessation and now offers community CPR classes.

For more information on REACH programs or Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, please call 413-664-5326.
