More Snow
The Berkshires received several inches of snow this morning, but not enough to close schools, unlike yesterday's sleety mess. Temperatures will drop into the 20s this afternoon. A few more snow showers are expected through the weekend.
We have reports that the roads are very slippery to take care in the evening commute. |
Duff'em If You've Got'em
North Adams Regional Hospital went smoke-free Monday — so did all its sister sites, from Sweet Brook to Northern Berkshire Family Practice to the Women's Exchange. No ashtrays, no smoking: No butts about it. |

“Kooky Spooky” Flower Show To Open At Ventfort Hall - September 24, 2008
In celebration of Halloween, the Lenox Garden Club in conjunction with Ventfort Hall Mansion and Gilded Age Museum will sponsor a “Kooky Spooky” Flower Show at the historic Gilded Age mansion. It will open on Thursday, October 30, at 1 pm with a reception and tea scheduled from 4 pm to 6 pm. Show hours on Friday, October 31 are 10 am to 5 pm, and Saturday, November 1 and Sunday, November 2, are 10 am to 3 pm.
The club has organized five flower arrangement classes to be judged, all of which are open to members of the club and the general public. Class 1 is Mr. Jack O’Lantern; Class 2, Witches’Brew; Class 3, Ghouls and Goblins; Class 4, Ghost Story, and Class 5, Who’s There?. The entries will be displayed by class in various rooms on the first floor of the mansion and will be awarded ribbons for conformance to flower arrangement rules, design, artistic concept, expression and distinction.
A horticulture division is also being offered as part of the flower show. Here the classes are Creepy Crawly (trained houseplants), Haunted House (foliage houseplants), Trick or Treat (blooming houseplants), Scary and Frightening (Cacti and Succulents) and Happy Halloween (a potted non-hanging plant of exceptional horticultural merit). Again, entries will be judged and awarded ribbons.
For entry information call MaryEllen O’Brien at 413-229-3025.
Admission to the opening reception and tea is $18 for nonmembers, $15 for members of Ventfort Hall and $7 for children under 18. The exhibit will remain open during the weekend at no extra charge with regular museum admission. For further information regarding Ventfort Hall, located at 104 Walker Street in Lenox, call 413-637-3206.
An Official Project of Save America’s Treasures, Ventfort Hall Mansion and Gilded Age Museum offers tours of the historic mansion, as well as lectures, concerts, teas, theater and other programs. This elegant Elizabethan-Revival Berkshire “cottage,” listed on the National Register of Historic Places, is open to the public year-around and is available for private rental. Built in 1893 for George and Sarah Morgan (sister of the financier, J. P. Morgan), Ventfort Hall has undergone substantial restoration, which continues. |
