NBH Stroke Support Group meet - October 02, 2008
NORTH ADAMS - Northern Berkshire Healthcare’s Stroke Support Group will meet Thursday, October 9, 2008. The group will meet at the VNA & Hospice of Northern Berkshire’s Community Room from noon to 2 p.m. A light lunch will be served. The group is open to those who are recovering from a stroke, family members and caregivers of stroke patients.
The October 9 meeting is divided into two parts, each lasting approximately 45 minutes. The first half of the meeting will focus on stress relief and group members will have an opportunity to view an acclaimed 20-minute TED (Technology, Entertainment, Design) Conference presentation by Dr. Jill Bolte Taylor.
Dr. Taylor is a Harvard-trained and published neuroanatomist who experienced a severe hemorrhage in the left hemisphere of her brain in 1996. She has since written a book called “My Stroke of Insight: A Brain Scientist’s Personal Journey” that is currently on the New York Times Best Seller list.
The second half of the meeting will allow stroke patients, family members and caregivers a chance to talk about the issues they feel are most important to them. It will also give group members a chance to network with others who may have gone through similar experiences, and allow time for caring and sharing.
