Mr. Tire was busy on Tuesday.
NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — An early storm sweeping through upstate New York sent local motorists speeding off the Mr. Tire — where they came to a screeching halt.

Long lines at Mr. Tire have become an annual event around here, as residents patiently wait to get their snow tires or new tires put on.

On Tuesday, some were in line for up to three hours. That didn't seem to bother Craig Boucher, who's a longtime customer.

"No one is as good as Mr. Tire, been coming here for years," said Boucher, who was chatting with Gene Vivori, a Mr. Tire employer since it opened in 1978. The business moved to Curran Highway in 1992.

Frances Lampman of Pownal, Vt., had driven into the line at 9 a.m.; by noon, she was the next in line to enter the garage. "This is quite a business he has here."

Residents were getting ready for a storm that's expected to drop up to 8 inches over the higher elevations in Berkshire County by Wednesday. Upstate New York could get up to two feet.

According to Channel 13 in Albany, N.Y., schools were closed or delayed classes in counties southwest of Albany on Tuesday and road conditions were reported as slippery.

Forecasters say winds of 20 to 25 mph will accompany the snow in some areas, with gusts of up to 40 mph.

Mr. Tire owner Larry Davis and his workers were pushing to get those new treads on before the storm hit.

"All hands on deck; we are moving at a feverish pace," said Davis. "We have 10 guys working and average about 10 cars per hour. We really appreciate people's patience and loyalty."
