WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass - "The Many Faces of Goya" film and lecture series at the Sterling and Francine Clark Art Institute concludes with Goya in Bordeaux on Thursday, November 20, at 7 pm. The film will be preceded by an introduction about the artist's life. Following the screening will be an opportunity to discuss the artist and the film. The series is presented in cooperation with the Center for Foreign Languages, Literatures, and Cultures at Williams College. Admission to the series is free.
Director Carlos Saura takes on Goya, one Spanish master to another, in Goya in Bordeaux (1999, 105 min., in Spanish with English subtitles, rated R), with the artist looking back from his approaching death in exile in 1828 to the passionate passages of his earlier life. The lavish production is interspersed with tableaux-like recreations of Goya's work, particularly the series of etchings, "The Disasters of War." Sonia Pérez Villanueva, visiting professor of Spanish at Williams, will introduce the film.
The Clark is located at 225 South Street in Williamstown, MA. The galleries are open Tuesday through Sunday, 10 am to 5 pm (daily in July and August). Admission is free November through May.
