NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Jennifer Trainer Thompson will read selections from her book "The Joy of Family Traditions: A Season-by-Season Companion to 400 Celebrations and Activities" at this month's WordPlay.
The monthly reading series is co-sponsored by Inkberry and Papyri Books. It will be held at Papyri Books, 45 Eagle St., Saturday, Dec. 13, at 7p.m.
With almost 500,000 books and posters in print, Thompson has written more than 15 books, including "Beyond Einstein: The Cosmic Quest For The Theory Of The Universe," which has been published in 10 languages, "Jump Up And Kiss Me: Spicy Vegetarian Cooking," "Feasts Afloat" and a trilogy of books on ingredients native to her New England home: cranberries, blueberries and maple syrup).
Nominated for three James Beard awards and dubbed the "Queen of Hot" by The Associated Press, she's recognized as a leader in the spicy foods movement for her cookbooks and the hot sauce posters that she has created for Celestial Arts.
Thompson's "The Joy of Family Traditions" is a season-by-season journey through the year that presents family-oriented holidays, holy days, milestone events, curious customs, and once in a lifetime occasions. The book offers inspiration to parents, grandparents, and parents-to-be for creating, adapting, and preserving holidays and other occasions.
Gail Burns of Williamstown will host the event for Inkberry. After the reading, there will be a brief intermission, followed by the popular WordPlay open mike. Refreshments will be available, and admission is free and open to the public.
