MCLA Stifles Becker CollegeMCLA Sports Info 09:06AM / Wednesday, November 26, 2008
NORTH ADAMS, Mass. – The MCLA Trailblazers women’s basketball team picked up their third win on this young season. MCLA struggled at times offensively, but played a stifling defense limiting Becker (1-3) to just 24% shooting from the floor for the game Becker didn’t help themselves by shooting just 48% from the line.
MCLA led 30-21 at the half thanks to a Jackie Vye three at the buzzer; and a 9-0 run to start the 2nd half, put the Trailblazers up comfortably 40-21 with 13:31 left. Becker tried to get back into it with full court pressure, forcing MCLA (3-1) into several turnovers over an 8-2 run cutting the lead to 13 (42-29) with just under 10 minutes to go.
MCLA recovered and outscored Becker 12-5 putting the game away. The Trailblazers got hot late and won going away 66-42.Laura Silverman (Ballston, New York) led the way with 15 points and 15 rebounds. Jade Prickett (Westhampton, MA) had a nice game totaling 6 points and 9 rebounds and Chelsey Burke (Southampton, MA) had a game high 6 assists. Center Jen Wehner (Cooperstown, NY) made her MCLA debut and grabbed 8 rebounds in 17 minutes. Becker’s Beth Pion (Enfield, CT) scored 10 and Heidi Miller (Sanbornton, NH) had 9 to pace Becker. The Trailblazers dominated the glass out rebounding Becker by 28 (59-31).
MCLA will next play December 2nd at Albany College of Pharmacy at 8:00. Becker will be at Trinity (CT) on December 4th. |
