Swimming Lessons Offered by BCC10:41AM / Thursday, December 04, 2008
The South County Center of Berkshire Community College will offer new swimming workshops at the Berkshire South Regional Community Center in Great Barrington this spring.
“Lifeguard Training” (WKS 1511) teaches participants rescue techniques, first aid and CPR, and in-lines stabilization techniques. Successful completion will include certifications in Waterfront Lifeguard Training, Basic First Aid, and CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer. Classes meet Monday evening, Jan. 19 through April 6, from 5:30 to 8:30. Registration cost is $275.
The two following adult swimming workshops for beginners and advance beginners will also be offered. Registration cost is $60 per course.
“Adult Beginners Swim Lessons” (WKS 1512) is designed for adults who have never learned to swim and may be uncomfortable around water. The class focuses on increasing student’s comfort level in the water, basic flotation and safety skills, and beginning front crawl and backstroke skills. Classes meet Wednesday afternoon, Jan. 14 through Feb. 18, from 2:30 to 3:30.
“Adult Advanced Beginners Swim” (WKS 1513) teaches adults who can stay afloat, refining kick, arm stroke and rhythmic breathing in the front crawl. The lesson will also focus on refining backstroke and introduces breaststroke and side stroke. Classes meet Wednesday afternoon, Feb. 25 through April 1, from 2:30 to 3:30. |
