LENOX, Mass. - The Lenox Library Association is pleased to announce that The Legacy Banks Foundation has made a $5,000 grant to the Lenox Library as a major sponsor of the Library’s upcoming fundraising gala on January 31, 2009.

The black-tie event will be a “Chinese New Year” celebration at the Lenox Library to raise funds in support of the Library’s educational programs and resources. The event committee is chaired by Daniel T.M. Dempsey, an officer of the Lenox Library Association’s Board of Managers.

Denis Lesieur, Executive Director of the Lenox Library, said “We are very grateful to receive this significant grant from The Legacy Banks Foundation, whose community-oriented philanthropic tradition continues to support the Lenox Library’s vital educational mission, especially our top-ranked children’s programs.”

The Lenox Library is an independently owned and operated library in its 152nd year of continuous operation. More than half of the Library’s annual operating budget is funded by donations raised from individuals and corporations, in addition to an annual appropriation by the Town of Lenox. The Library’s building at 18 Main Street in Lenox is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

“The Legacy Banks Foundation appreciates the Lenox Library’s continued efforts to provide educational resources and programs to our community, especially for children” said Richard Sullivan, President of The Legacy Banks Foundation. “The Foundation and its associates are committed to supporting non-profit organizations doing important work in the communities in which they live and work, and the Lenox Library is at the heart of this community.”

Tickets to the January “Chinese New Year” gala range from $50 - $500 for individuals. For more information regarding individual and table reservations, as well as sponsorship opportunities, please contact Lisa Berkel, Director of Development at the Lenox Library at 413-637-2630 x121 or lberkel@lenoxlib.org.
