Inaugural Spirit Imbues Impromptu Parade

Staff reports

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — People weren't just celebrating in Washington, D.C. A group of self-proclaimed "Obama lovers" held their own Obama Celebration Walk on Tuesday night.

Ignoring the cold, the group of young adults were making a loop around the downtown area. iBerkshires advertising executive Wanda Haley caught sight of the troop as they marched down Ashland Street.

That was at 8:30; they'd already been walking the streets in their Obama shirts waving Obama signs for two hours, they told her. They posed for pictures at Cumberland Farms.

The frigid air hadn't stifled their good spirits. They waved and cheered as motorists beeped their horns in support and said they were heading toward River Street. Then they marched off into the night.

Their optimism was reflected in our poll of how readers felt about the inauguration and our new president. Only about 16 percent who took the poll felt depressed and bitter; the rest had a far more positive reaction.

I believe the reference to drinking kool aid is about Jonestown. His followers drank Kool Aid that he told them was poisned and they still drank it. The implication is that Democrats are allowed to lie and their followers will follow like sheep. Bill O'Riley uses the phrase on his show all the time, it has nothing to do with race.

I am one of the people in the picture, and I have a job, and had a job since I was 15, now i am 24, worked all my life, and I pay taxes to keep uneducated people like you on welfare. This is not a race thing. And if you want to make it into one, if you look at the statistics 75% of white americans are on welfare. Not African Americans. It's so sad to know we live in a society that still cant except the fact that all humans are equal! Just because we are minorities, your using terms like "we drank too much koolaid". Stereo types like those are the reason why I went to college. Dont front, white people drink koolaid as much as we do too!

Dear Not my president,
Could it be that your a racist? Why would it be that those kids don't have jobs, because they are of color? YOU IDIOT!!!! As a matter of fact they are all employed and you've probably seen them in town working. Keep your ignorant comments to yourself!!!!!

Hey im the kid in the bottom left hand corner of the picture i just want to say to not my president that no matter how u slice it barack is your president and please don't disrespect what we were doing it was supposed to be fun and show support.

MUAHAHAHAHA.....Mrs. Rancourt is right....your spirit is wonderful, just spell Mr. President's name right....college students, right??
from: snickerson: 01-22-2009

A little too much of the Kool-Aid, kiddies? You can't spell, you look like idiots. Pull up you pants and get some jobs, ol' Barry Obama needs your tax dollars to pass out to the non-working...oh, wait, never mind....that's what you are hoping for..

Editor: Everyone's entitled to an opinion, but I would think seeing young people this excited about a new president and change in government would be lauded and encouraged. Not demeaned with stereotypes from the safety of anonymity.
from: Not My Presidenton: 01-22-2009

Guys, Guys, Guys!!!! I am glad you are taking such an interest in politics. This was a very historic day….however if you are going to create signs, you need to spell the person’s name correctly. Barack has a C
