Bridgewater State Picked To Capture 2009 MASCAC Softball Title
Buzzards Bay, Mass. — The Bears of Bridgewater State College are the pre-season pick to win the 2009 Massachusetts State College Athletic Conference Softball championship in a vote of the league’s coaches.
Bridgewater State captured five of eight first place votes to amass 60 points in taking the top spot in the poll, as the Bears outdistanced second place Westfield State’s total of 55 points that included one first place vote. Salem State and Framingham State, which each received a first place vote, follow in third and fourth place with 48 and 45 points, respectively, while Fitchburg State and Worcester State tied for fifth place in receiving 25 points each. The Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts and Massachusetts Maritime round out this year’s coaches’ poll with 22 and eight points, respectively.
The Massachusetts State College Athletic Conference is comprised of eight state member institutions that sponsor 15 championships in NCAA Division III play. MASCAC members Bridgewater State College, Fitchburg State College, Framingham State College, Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts, Massachusetts Maritime Academy, Salem State College, Westfield State College and Worcester State College compete for league titles in the sports of baseball, men’s & women’s basketball, men’s & women’s cross country, field hockey, football, men’s ice hockey, women’s lacrosse, men’s & women’s soccer, softball, men’s & women’s track & field and women’s volleyball.
