A Toyota Camry ripped through the side of a duplex at 636 Mohawk Trail early Saturday morning. The driver was seriously injured.
NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — A local woman lost control of her vehicle and slammed into a home on the Mohawk Trail early Saturday morning.

Kara Lynn Delisle, 25, of West Shaft Road was taken to North Adams Regional Hospital after her 1999 Toyota Camry Solara drove through the living room at 636 Mohawk Trail, taking out the corner of the building and the front door. The car ended up on its side, its roof leaning against the building.

Delisle was listed in guarded condition on Monday at Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield.

According to the police log, a red car was spotted on West Shaft Road with no tail lights and driving erratically. The car reportedly turned down West Shaft Road; a call reporting a car hitting a house came minutes later at 3:11 a.m.

Police Director Michael Cozzaglio, North Adams Ambulance Service and the Fire Department responded to the scene, and Building Inspector William Meranti was called. Officer Erik Thomas also requested the accident reconstruction team.

The other side of the two-apartment home, 634 Mohawk Trail, appeared undamaged. Cariddi Auto towed the car away.

Delisle faces charges of negligent operation of a motor vehicle, operating under the influence and causing serious injury.

Editor's Note: Information about a person's medical condition is difficult to obtain because of new federal laws that protect patient privacy.

To posters, keep in mind that Ms. Delisle is "facing charges" of OUI. This means authorities have evidence leading them to believe she was intoxicated - not that she was. Until she appears in a court of law, these are allegations only. I would also be careful about making speculations about her or local establishments.

Those who would like to leave brief, and I do mean brief, get-well comments or who would like to provide updates on Ms. Delisle's condition for her friends, may e-mail info@iberkshires.com and I will post those comments here.

■ For anyone that cares to know, Kara remains in the intensive care unit at BMC. As of yet she has not been able to breathe on her own,and remains unconscious. Her injuries are multiple and very severe. She faces a very long road ahead. To the many people who showed support for our family, the rescue team, the staff at both NARH and BMC , THANK YOU. We are praying that Kara will fully recover from this traumatic accident , as well as for the tenants of the home. May GOD bless all of you. Hopefully we all learn something from this.I pray that we do.
