WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. - The Williams College Department of Music will present a Senior Recital featuring Sarah Riskind '09, soprano on Sunday, May 3, at 5 p.m. in Chapin Hall on the Williams College campus.

This free event is open to the public.

Riskind will be singing Giovanni Battista Pergolesi’s Stabat Mater with Katie Yosua '11, soprano; J. S. Bach’s “Quia Respexit” from Magnificat, BWV 243; John Eccles’s “I burn, I burn” from Don Quixote; Robert Schumann’s “Ich bin dein Baum” (Minnespiel, opus 101, no. 3) with Rob Silversmith '11, baritone; and Schumann’s Frauenliebe und –Leben, opus 42. She will be accompanied by Scott Smedinghoff '09, Dan Kohane '12, and Rob Silversmith '11.

Sarah was born and raised by her Texan parents in Needham, Massachusetts. After many years of violin and piano lessons, she began studying voice during her sophomore year of college. In addition to singing in the Chamber Choir and sometimes Symphonic Winds, she is now the student conductor of the Williams Concert Choir, assistant conductor of the Bennington Children’s Chorus (directed by Kerry Ryer-Parke), senior director of the Williams College Elizabethans, and director of the Contra Dance band, Rude Cider.

For her senior thesis, Sarah composed a three-movement work for soprano and chamber orchestra entitled Heart’s Place, which incorporates texts from a variety of medieval and Biblical sources. She will conduct the ensemble, featuring Kerry Ryer-Parke, at the Symphonic Winds concert on Saturday, May 9th at 8:00pm in Chapin Hall. Her post-Williams plans include composing, conducting, and pursuing her love of music in every way possible.
