ADAMS, Mass. — A spring cleanup of downtown Adams, the Ashuwillticook Rail Trail and portions of the Hoosic River and its tributary streams will be held on Saturday, May 16, from 9 a.m. to noon, with lunch from noon to 1.
"Adams Cleans Up (the Hoosic)" is sponsored by the Hoosic River Watershed Association and supported by a grant from the William J. and Margery S. Barrett Fund of the Berkshire Taconic Community Foundation. Delmolino & Sons is donating a Dumpster.
Participants should meet at the Discover the Berkshires Visitors Center on East Hoosac Street. Cleanup teams will be sent out to various locations with bags, gloves and brooms, and other teams will apply decals to storm drains and install dog cleanup stations. Signed releases are required for all participants, and youths must have a signed release from a parent or legal guardian and must be accompanied by an adult.
Participants are invited to the following cookout lunch at the visitors' center. There will be prizes for the team that collects the most garbage, finds the most unique item, and demonstrates the most enthusiasm. Large groups are asked to sign up in advance.
A rain date is set for Saturday, May 23. For more information, contact Caroline Scully, South Branch coordinator, Hoosic River Watershed Association at carolineannscully@gmail.com or 413-652-1549 or HooRWA at office@hoorwa.org or 413-458-2742.
