"Having spent much of my career as a child abuse prosecutor, I witnessed firsthand the devastating affects of crimes against children and their families," said Coakley. "We recognize achievements in advancing protections for the children in the commonwealth, but also renew our commitment to be vigilant in our advocacy to keep them safe."
Sponsored by the Molly Bish Foundation, Missing Children's Day is held annually for friends and family to commemorate, pay tribute and remember missing children and to recognize individuals who have made significant contributions in the community to protect the youth of Massachusetts.
As part of the day's ceremonies, themed "Light of Hope," Coakley received an award in recognition of her legislative leadership and her efforts in support of the passage of An Act to Further Protect Children, legislation designed to better protect children and provide more stringent sentences for sex offenders and improved tracking of online predators.
The event was held in Nurses Hall; approximately 150 government officials, advocates, and families of missing children attended today’s event. |
