WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. - Images Cinema will present Family Flicks Under the Stars on four consecutive Sundays at sundown, July 12 – August 2: Willy Wonka And The Chocolate Factory, The Princess Bride, Charade, and Superman. The films will be presented on Chapin Lawn of Williams College, right off Rt. 2, near the top of Spring Street. Admittance is free and open to all. In case of rain, the movies will screen at Images Cinema, 50 Spring Street, Williamstown.

Images Cinema’s Executive Director Sandra Thomas says, “Given that our Berkshire summers are relatively short, enjoying the outdoors with family and friends, listening to music, sharing a picnic or popcorn and watching a classic movie is a must do! Plus, we've made a deal with the bugs to stay away and they've been pretty good about holding up their end of the bargain.”

Family Flicks Under the Stars was made possible by the generous corporate sponsorship of Williams College, Williamstown Savings Bank, Gramercy Bistro, The Harrison Gallery, McClellands, Shima Boutique, Spice Root, West Wine and Spirits, Wild Oats Market, The Browns, The Clip Shop, Jiminy Peak Resort, Library Antiques, The Mountain Goat, Thai Garden, Williamstown Motel, and others.

Images Cinema concessions will be available on-site. Attendees are welcome to bring picnics, lawn chairs, and blankets. Those who live nearby are encouraged to bike or walk to the event to avoid parking hassles.

Willy Wonka And The Chocolate Factory (1971)

Sunday, July 12

Based on the Roald Dahl book, Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory features Gene Wilder in the title role. Charlie Bucket is a poor and kind-hearted boy living with his widowed mother and four bedridden grandparents in a tiny, ramshackle house. The famously reclusive chocolate maker, Willy Wonka, has hidden five Golden Tickets amongst his billions of Wonka Bars. The finders of these special tickets will be given a full tour of his world-renowned candy factory – the inner workings of which are a tightly kept secret – along with a lifetime supply of chocolate.

The Princess Bride (1987)

Sunday, July 19

The classic touchstone of the comic adventure romance fantasy genre! A man reads a book to his grandson, The Princess Bride. The book tells the story of a beautiful woman named Buttercup, and her romance with the farm hand Westley. After his ship is attacked by the Dread Pirate Roberts, and Westley is assumed dead, she reluctantly becomes engaged to Prince Humperdinck. Will true love prevail?!

Charade (1963)

Sunday, July 26

With a cast that includes Audrey Hepburn, Cary Grant, Walter Mathau and James Coburn, Charade is the epitome of classy comedy suspense films. Regina Lambert returns from vacation planning to ask her husband for a divorce, when she discovers her apartment has been emptied of all their possessions, and the police notify her that her husband has been murdered. She encounters a charming stranger named Peter Joshua, but she can't be sure if he's trying to help her or is after her money.

Superman (1978)

Sunday, August 2

Christopher Reeve, Gene Hackman, Margot Kidder, and Marlon Brando star in the first film adaptation of the classic comic book character. A pod from planet Krypton lands on Earth, in Smallville, Kansas. Jonathan and Martha Kent raise the infant they find inside as their own son, and name him Clark. After discovering his powers and responsibilities, he gets a job at the Daily Planet in Metropolis, keeping his super powers a secret.

The only one of its kind in Berkshire County, Images Cinema is a year-round non-profit, member-supported community film house that presents a wide range of films that impact filmmaking and our culture.
