PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The Pittsfield Elks Lodge 272 will host a TIPS training session lead by Amalio Jusino, president of Emergency Response Consulting, on Monday, July 27, from 6 to 11 p.m.
The cost is $45; the lodge is located at 27 Union St.
The training will cover how local alcohol servers can prevent drunk driving, underage drinking and alcohol abuse. Participants will become certified in the Training for Intervention Procedures program, the leading alcohol server training in the country.
TIPS training can enhance the people skills of the servers, sellers and consumers of alcohol. Program participants are trained by certified instructors to detect the signs of intoxication and gain the confidence needed to intervene effectively to prevent alcohol-related problems. Participants will also be taught to identify underage people and people who are already intoxicated. In addition, they will be provided a copy of Massachusetts General Laws regarding alcohol and will receive additional training on recognizing proper identification and what a server's legal options are when provided a false form of identification.
There are nearly a million people nationwide and in 22 foreign countries who have been TIPS-certified. Jusino and the Elks Lodge are looking forward to a positive response from the community and to having a representative from each licensed establishment attend. To register for the class, contact Jusino at 1-413-822-8669 anytime.
