The summer social event, the Mayor's Downtown Celebration is Wednesday, Aug. 19. Paul W. Marino kicks off the celebration with a historical Main Street walk at 5 p.m.

  

At Bascom Lodge, atop Mount Greylock, on Wednesday, Aug. 19 at 7 p.m., Lauren Stevens will give a talk about Jeremiah Wilbur and the Mount Greylock State Reservation. Dinner to follow. Call 413-743-1591 for information.

  

Do you know someone who is starting kindergarten this school year? If so, come to the North Adams Public Library on Thursday, Aug. 20, for a "We're Getting Ready for Kindergarten Program." The event starts at 6:30 p.m. in the Youth Services Department for stories, crafts, snacks, and free books. Call 413-662-3133.

 

Project Bandaloop brings perspective changing vertical dance to Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Arts' 19th-century mill buildings on Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Aug. 21, 22, 23, two shows each day at 3 and 5 p.m. Call 413-662-2111.

  

Gallery owner Ralph Brill presents Hoosac River Lights on Saturday, Aug. 22, with events for children and adults from the afternoon into the evening. Call 845-661-3593 for information.

 

On Saturday, Aug. 22, at 8 p.m., the Royal Berkshire Improv Troupe will perform their last show of the summer season at Main Street Stage. Call 663-3240 or 652-5282.


The annual commemoration of 1746 Siege of Fort Massachusetts will be held Sunday, Aug. 23, at 2 p.m. in the barracks room of the North Adams Museum of History and Science, third floor (no elevator).  There will be readings from the Rev. Norton, who survived the raid, and about Captivity Smead, who was born on the forced march to Canada. Call 664-4700.

  

The annual North Adams Open Studios, held on Saturday and Sunday Oct. 17-18, is shaping up to be a major happening in the city. Call 413-664-0197 for more information.



Submissions to the North Adams EZine must be received by 4 p.m. Monday to be considered for inclusion in that week's issue and are subject to edit. EZine is published by the Mayor's Office of Tourism at 6 West Main St. All types of artistic, cultural, historical or recreational events happening in the greater North Adams area will be considered for publication.
