PITTSFIELD, Mass. - State Senator Benjamin B. Downing (D – Pittsfield) has chosen Susan Kerr as his featured artist for the months of September and October. The latest participant of Downing’s Local Artist Exhibition Program, Kerr is showcasing 11 beautiful pastel paintings in the Senator’s district office, located at 20 Bank Row in Pittsfield.
A new Berkshire resident, Kerr has lived in Pittsfield for 18 months. She classifies herself as a self-taught artist and has painted from a young age. “I became interested in pastels ten years ago and absolutely love this medium,” said Kerr. “My greatest enjoyment is in the great variety of beautiful colors that pastels offer, and layering these in my attempt to create fiction from reality.”
Kerr has received numerous awards in juried shows; her paintings have been exhibited throughout the northeast in galleries and shows in Rhode Island, Connecticut, Massachusetts and New York State.
“Susan Kerr’s pastels artfully showcase the wonders of nature,” said Downing. “I encourage everyone to stop by my office to view and enjoy her remarkable talent. She is new to Pittsfield; I think the local artistic community is lucky to gain her talent.”
Downing’s district office is open during normal business hours Monday through Friday. Local artists interested in participating in the Senator’s Local Artist Exhibition Program should contact Allison Johnson Krol at (413) 442-4008. Current and past participants are highlighted on the Senator’s website: www.senatordowning.com.
