Join The Free Film Club At The Clark09:11AM / Wednesday, September 09, 2009
WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. - Film aficionados and those who just simply like a good flick are invited to join the Cinema Salon Film Club at the Sterling and Francine Clark Art Institute. Enjoy films on the Clark's big screen with commentary and discussion led by Steve Satullo, film programmer for the Clark.
The introductory meeting will take place on Friday, September 25 at 4 pm. Subsequent meetings will be held on October 9, October 23, November 6, November 20, at 4 pm. There is no charge to join the club and film screenings are free.
The initial screenings will survey "The Tragedies and Triumphs of Italian Neorealism," and start with Ermanno Olmi's Il Posto (The Sound of Trumpets) (1961, 93 min., in Italian with subtitles), a film in which the tragedies are tiny and the triumphs endearing, as a teenage boy leaves his village for "the job" in a Milan factory. Il Posto won the Italian Film Critics Award at the 1961 Venice Film Festival, the Sutherland Trophy at the 1961 British Film Institute Awards, and a David at the 1962 David di Donatello Awards.
The Clark is located at 225 South Street in Williamstown, Massachusetts. The galleries are open Tuesday through Sunday, 10 am to 5 pm (open daily in July and August). Admission June 1 through October 31 is $12.50 for adults, free for children 18 and younger, members, and students with valid ID. Admission is free November through May. For more information, call 413-458-2303 or visit clarkart.edu. |
