SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. - The Ephs' finished off Day 2 of the Mount Holyoke Invitational at The Orchards with a final score of 667 (Day 1: 332, Day 2: 335), which put them in 3rd place out of the 15 competing teams, despite the day-long rain and cold.

St. Lawrence had an outstanding performance all weekend long, which led to a 1st place victory while rival Amherst College managed to seize 2nd place due to the performance of junior Hayley Milbourn who came away as number one of the tournament individually. The Ephs' very own Anne O’Leary tied for second place with Aimee Caligore of St. Lawrence with a score of 80, 78.

In addition to O’Leary’s stellar individual performance, the team managed to come together and despite starting out the day in 4th place, they were able to overtake Fairfield in order to place third. Victoria Student turned in a score of 85 while Gelber and Miller each finished with a score of 86, and Kristen Tubbs followed with an 88.

Coach Erika DeSanty had high hopes for the team all weekend long and noted that she was, “Proud of the effort the girls showed all weekend, especially considering the less than desirable conditions. The way the girls pushed through it says a lot.” In regards to Anne O’Leary’s performance she said, “Anne has continued to imporess me. She is playing consistently well.

She was originally struggling but found a way to pull through, which takes stores of mental strength.” Coach DeSanty is confident that the team is seriously close to accomplishing great things. “The team is committed to pushing each other and we’re so close to breaking through. I’m waiting for it and if we continue to work as hard as he have, I’m sure we’re going to get it.”

Williamstown Board Opts to Negotiate with College on Water St. Lot

By Stephen DravisiBerkshires Staff

Newly elected board member Nate Budington, far left, participates in his first in-person meeting along with, from left, Matt Neely, Stephanie Boyd, Peter Beck, Shana Dixon and Town Manager Robert Menicocci.
WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — The Select Board on Monday decided to enter into negotiations with Williams College on the sale of the vacant town-owned lot at 59 Water St.

But the board members made it clear that the college's proposal to acquire the lot is a starting point, not a final deal that the elected officials would accept.

"For the sake of continued conversation, I'm in favor of [awarding Williams the site], but if this process wasn't continued with the opportunity for further negotiation, I wouldn't vote to continue this," Peter Beck said. "I think that next step is necessary for us to get to a yes on this."

"I think there's wide agreement on that," Matthew Neely said just before the 5-0 vote to enter talks with the college.

Williams was the sole respondent to a town-issued request for proposals to develop the former town garage site, currently a dirt lot.

The college's stated intent is to build a new Facilities office and create up to 170 parking spaces at 59 Water Street. That use will allow the college to redevelop the current Facilities building site and parking lot as part of a reconception of the school's indoor athletic and recreation facilities.

Under the terms of the RFP, the college's proposal was subjected to review by an ad hoc advisory committee to the town manager, who brought the question to the Select Board. That board will have the final say on any purchase and sales agreement.
