PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Local history-oriented organization members are invited to a networking event at Arrowhead on Monday, Oct. 5. The morning event will include a talk by Berkshire Historical Society Executive Director Betsy Sherman.

Sherman will discuss the challenges of restoration at Arrowhead, the 225-year-old house where Herman Melville lived and wrote "Moby-Dick." She will also talk about the society's plans for the future and give participants a tour of the property and the current exhibit.

The event, co-hosted by the Upper Housatonic Valley National Heritage Area, with the Connecticut League of History Organizations, is planned as a networking opportunity for area history organizations from Connecticut and the Berkshires. The idea behind the collaboration is that when groups with limited resources collaborate and learn from each other they can accomplish more than when they work alone. Other recent topics have included working with interns and fundraising.

Dan Bolognani, executive director of the Upper Housatonic Valley National Heritage Area, also called Housatonic Heritage, will introduce the event. The Upper Housatonic Valley National Heritage Area exists to illuminate the diverse, rich identity of the Upper Housatonic River Valley region and to preserve and promote its historical, cultural and natural resources.

Priscilla Brendler,  executive director of the Connecticut League of History Organizations, will briefly introduce her organization.

The event begins at 9:30 a.m. and runs until about 11:30 to noon. Refreshments will be served. Registration is $15 for members of area history organizations. For information, call 413-298-3468. To register, call 203-624-9186, or e-mail Sandra Elgee at Sandy@CLHO.org.
