Falling for Art

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Wandering the streets of the downtown during the beautiful fall evening of Sept. 24 were a few hundred people taking part in the final DownStreet Art Thursday. The evenings of exhibit openings and special events took place on the fourth Thursdays from June to September.
Adults and children visited galleries, chatted with friends, listened to strolling musicians, had their face or arms painted, savored special treats, food or drinks, and did a bit of shopping — all in downtown North Adams on a clear, warm September evening.
DownStreet Thursday also offered the opportunity to talk with the artists, curators and others connected with the exhibits at the ongoing DownStreet art exhibits and at the art openings at MCLA Gallery 51, North Adams Co-op Gallery, "Works and Days" by Mark Mulherrin, Avalon Seafood Gallery, and the new exhibition venue at 77 Main St. that featured "800,000 Acknowledge. Remember. Renew."
Many people also attended the dance performance created specifically for the former Sports Corner site at Holden and Main streets by Kinodance's "Refractive Kinescope" installation.

Thank you all for a great evening, and a great Summer. Many galleries are open year round, and the rest through Open Studios. So if you have not had a chance yet to see Mark Mulherrin's work, Andrew Davis' Avalon Seafood Gallery or the truly moving 800,000 project on Main Street come on down. And be sure not to miss North Adams Open Studios October 17th and 18th.
