Artists Talks

Adams in the '50s

Visit the Bascom Lodge atop Mount Greylock for the Talk and Dine Series on Oct. 7 at 6. Adams historian Eugene Michalenko will speak about Adams and the valley in the 1940s and 1950s. Free and open to the public, followed by a reservation-only dinner. Information: 413-743-1591. 


Library Concert 

Blues artist Robin O'Herin will perform a free concert at the North Adams Public Library on Thursday, Oct. 8, at 6. The concert is free and open to the public.. Information: 413-662-3133.  


Hawkeye Love 

Poet and MCLA professor Don Washburn gives a reading from his book "In the Eye of the Red-Tailed Hawk: An Essay on Love" on Thursday, Oct. 8, at 7 in Room 218 of Murdock Hall.

 

Olver on Health Care 

The Northern Berkshire Community Coalition hosts the public and U.S. Rep. John W. Olver, D-Amherst, on Friday, Oct. 9, beginning at 10 a.m. as he reports on the progress of health care reform. The forum takes place at First Baptist Church, Eagle Street entrance. All are invited. Information: 413-663-7588.

 

New Gallery Opening 

The opening reception for the inaugural exhibition of studio21south in the Beaver Mill is Friday, Oct. 9, from 6-9 p.m. The gallery will be open throughout the Columbus Day weekend. Mesopotamian Epic

Western Gateway Heritage Park Visitors Museum sponsors "The Epic of Gilgamesh" on Friday, Oct. 9, at 7 p.m. at the North Adams Public Library at 74 Church St. The illustrated dramatic reading is second in a three-part series for Massachusetts Archaeology month. Information: 413-663-6312.


Mill City Turns 5  

Mill City Productions will celebrate its fifth anniversary with a revival of "Wanda's Visit" and "This is a Play," directed by Kate Merrigan and Liz Urban, respectively. Performances take place for the next two weekends beginning Friday, Oct. 9, and Friday, Oct. 16. Information: 413-664-0161.


WorldPlay at Papyri 

Inkberry and Papyri Books present WordPlay on Saturday, Oct. 10, at 7 p.m. at Papyri Books at 45 Eagle St. This month features historical fiction writer Charles O'Brien. Information: 413-662-2099.


Guitar People 

On Saturday, Oct. 10, at 8 p.m. in the Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art's Hunter Center, Emio Greco and PC will perform a new work merging dancers and guitars. Shiny black guitars are married with dancers' bodies, transforming them into flesh-and-blood soundboards. This production contains some nudity. Information: 413-662-2111.


Open Studios 

Artists in the city of North Adams welcome the public to the annual North Adams Open Studios on Saturday, Oct. 17, and Sunday, Oct. 18, from 10-6 p.m.

 

Submissions to the North Adams EZine must be received by 4 p.m. Monday afternoon to be considered for inclusion in that week’s issue and are subject to edit. EZine is published by the Mayor’s Office of Tourism. All types of artistic, cultural, historical or recreational events happening in the greater North Adams area will be considered for publication. SteepleCats Shut Out on Road

MONTPELIER, Vt. -- Four Vermont pitchers combined to strike out 11 and allow four hits Tuesday as the Mountaineers beat the North Adams SteepleCats, 11-0, in New England Collegiate Baseball League action.
 
Evan Meier, Bobby Stang, Tonny Woodie and Chris Diaz each had a hit for the SteepleCats, who used five pitchers in the loss.
 
North Adams (0-2) comes home Tuesday to host the Mystic Schooners at 6:30 p.m. at Joe Wolfe Field.
